Chapter 6 Response

Growing up in a small town with a high school that provided many technological options, I think I would be more comfortable and more confident in my teaching if I were allotted more digital technologies in my classroom. As a future Special Education major, I am going to need a lot of activities that will be fun, educational, and colorful, which is what a lot of digital technology provides. Ipads, computers, SmartBoards, and electronic readers could be essential tools in my future classroom, given that they are designed to enhance learning and make education as entertaining as possible. Along with this thought though is how some of the students might handle this delicate equipment if one is angry at a game they were playing or accidentally dropped one of the electronics. Ideally, I would have volunteers to help me out with supervising the students while they learn on the technology provided, and if I were not provided volunteers, I would maybe use this technology with the whole with the class by reading a book on the SmartBoard or by playing math games on the Ipad.

As a future Intervention Specialist, I have unfortunately not had the chance to actually be taught by a Special Education teacher, but I have had the chance to help an instructor at my elementary school throughout my high school years. The one theory that I think Mrs. Tebbe used the most was the cognitive theory because she took the time to fully understand each student, their behavior tactics and their thought processes throughout the years that they spent in her classroom.

An example of her demonstration of the cognivist theory was when she worked with a boy named Austin who suffered with ADHD. Austin was never cooperative in his classes and lost his temper very easily. So Mrs. Tebbe created a whole new lesson plan for Austin, which included short breakdowns of the material that he was learning in his different classes with a lot more hands on activity than what they were doing in the other classrooms. She was extremely patient and very smart with Austin and really perfected the cognitive theory.

I will definately try to use this theory in my classroom. It is something that I think will take a lot of practice but hopefully I will be able to perfect it throughout the years like Mrs. Tebbe was able to do.

1. I want my friends to describe me as: I would want my friends to describe me as outgoing and friendly.                                                         
2. Memorable learning experience: When my sister had a miscarriage, I learned how precious life is and and to be thankful for every day that you are given.
3. My favorite subject at school and why: My favorite class was either Speech or Mass Media. I love speaking in front of people which is a huge reason I wanted to be a teacher, but on the flip side, I loved learning about the media and the influence it has on modern society.
4. Accomplishment I most cherish: I was prom queen in high school.
5. My work habits can best be described as: Usually pretty good! I tend to procrastinate every now and then but am always able to catch back up on things!                                                                                                                         
6. Three words that describe me best: Bubbly, outgoing, and friendly!
7. People may be surprised to know: That I brush my teeth AT LEAST 6 times a day. :) I like clean teeth!                                                                                                                          
8. What I hope to be doing in ten years: Working at an Intervention Institute around my hometown.
9. What I do in my spare time: Usually hang out with friends!                                                                        
10. Things I can do without: The Carillon Dining Center's food.

15. What are your general expectations about this class? My main goal is just to be more fluent when using a Mac. 
16. How comfortable are you using Windows? How comfortable are you using Macs? I have used Windows all of my life, but until Tuesday, I have never touched a Mac. I'm really hoping that this class will further my education on these computers.
17. Which application(s) do you use the most? I unfortunately use Word the most.
18. Which application(s) do you want to learn how to use? I would love to be more comfortable with Movie Maker!
19. Is there anything I need to know about you? Nope.
20. What is your attitude about using technology? I think that technology is a great tool and I can;t wait to learn more about it.
